Hurricane Polymar: Episode 1

Hurricane Polymar - Episode 01.wmv_snapshot_17.36_[2013.05.23_14.54.46]

First episode of the classic Tatsunoko superhero series, now with English subtitles. Hurricane Polymar was created by Tatsuo Yoshida in 1974, following in the footsteps of previous hits like Gatchaman and Shinzou Ningen Casshern. This series is relatively more lighthearted and comedy-oriented compared to the shows that came before it, but it’s also noted for its violent fight scenes. While not as gory and messy like certain 80’s shows, Polymar beats up his enemies in various creative and brutal ways and the fight choreographies are often quite a thing to behold. The title of the series has a double meaning that gets lost in translation; “hurricane” is written with the kanji 破裏拳 (ha ri ken) which translates to something akin to “destructive reverse fist”.

The OVA remake of the series was recently licensed by Discotek, which is also worth looking into despite its disappointingly short length.

  1. Question: since Luurah got involved I presume the current release listed is a v2? Just asking since I got the “hotfile” release from here.

  2. You’re the best for subtitling this. The most the international audience has had of Polymar is that one OVA. Not to mention, Tatsunoko’s other series have had several remakes and are thus well known. After Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and even since way before that, I’ve really wanted to see this series and I can’t even begin to describe how thankful I am for this.

  3. Holy shit! I’ve been looking for someone to translate this since Tatsunoko vs Capcom came out 3 years ago! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES
